Decommissioning of old nameserver

19 October 2019 01:41:05 +0000

We are in the process of decommissioning server NC020. Among other functions, this server is also the machine on which nameserver ns3.niner.net is hosted. Not many clients’ domains are using ns3.niner.net, and of those that are most are registered with and therefore under the control of NinerNet. For this reason we can implement this change without bothering most clients.

However, if you have chosen to register your domain with another domain registrar and we don’t have access to your domain registration, we need to ask you to remove ns3.niner.net from the list of nameservers that are authoritative for your domain. If that is the case we will contact you via email, and point you to this notice to confirm the legitimacy of our request.

This change will not have any effect on your domain and how it, its website and email work. In fact, leaving ns3.niner.net in the list of nameservers authoritative for your domain will cause a slight decrease in performance, which is why we are asking you to remove it.

If you have any questions about this please reply to the email you will receive, or contact NinerNet support. Thank-you.

Upgrade of NC031 to NC041: Update 3

30 August 2019 13:11:36 +0000

At the risk of being repetitive, work on this continues. We’re in no rush to get this done too quickly, especially as shortcuts taken under pressure when setting up server NC031 (the current web server) led to some inconsistencies in how some accounts were set up that we’re only now able to deal with fully, and this is the best opportunity. Once those are sorted out we will do a test migration of some non-client test domains, and only when it is clear that the test migrations work flawlessly will we move client domains.

For this reason we’re not going to commit to finishing the migration to NC041 this weekend. We are, however, alive to the issues that have prompted this migration in the first place, and we are working diligently to get it done without undue delay.

That said, we have set up some clients on the new server if they happen to be in the process of setting up a new website anyway, and others that are new clients. If you’re in the unique position of being on the cusp of setting up a new website and would prefer to abandon your old website on the old server and start afresh on the new server, please contact us and we will do that for you immediately.

Thank-you.

Upgrade of NC031 to NC041: Update 2

26 August 2019 03:42:55 +0000

Work on this continues, but instead of a straight migration we have set up the new server from scratch. We’re in the process of adding domains that will not be migrated from NC031 to NC041.

Upgrade of NC031 to NC041: Update 1

20 August 2019 06:38:48 +0000

Work on this continues. We will shortly set up a number of domains on the new server that are awaiting a newer version of PHP, but do not need to be migrated. Following that, domains will be migrated from server NC031 to NC041.

At this point we are not anticipating much, if any, down time. However, this is subject to revision. Please contact support if you would like further details as they may apply to your account.

Please note that this maintenance and migration affects only websites. It does not in any way affect email.

Upgrade of NC031 to NC041

16 August 2019 10:24:47 +0000

We will be finalising work this weekend on setting up a new server on which the latest version of PHP will be available for those web apps that require it. If all goes well, all websites will be migrated in one fell swoop. If there are issues to overcome this will be delayed to some point during next week or perhaps on the following weekend.

Please check back here for updates. Thank-you.

16 July 2019 20:47:38 +0000

The reboot of server NC036 is complete. It was offline for about sixty seconds.

NC036: Reboot

16 July 2019 20:35:26 +0000

We will be rebooting server NC036 (the primary mail server) in a few minutes to apply updates.

NC036: Maintenance complete

10 June 2019 15:11:11 +0000

Our scheduled maintenance to increase the storage space available for email accounts on the mail server (NC036) is complete, after a delay completing the final step. The ability to send and receive email was not available between 19:23 and 20:19 UTC on 8 June. The expanded disk space has been tested and all is running normally.

If you have any issues or questions, please contact NinerNet support. Thank-you.

NC036: Scheduled maintenance underway

8 June 2019 19:15:56 +0000

The scheduled maintenance to increase hard drive space on server NC036 is underway. We will post progress reports or notice that the maintenance is complete as necessary.

NC036: Scheduled mail server maintenance

7 June 2019 16:00:22 +0000

During this weekend’s maintenance window we will be adding hard drive storage to server NC036 to continue to provide more storage space for a growing number of growing email accounts. This maintenance is scheduled to start at 19:00 UTC and we anticipate it will last less than one hour.

During the maintenance the ability to send and receive email will not be available, both via standalone email programs (e.g., Outlook, Thunderbird, etc.) and the webmail. Incoming email will be queued on the sending servers until our server is back online again, after which it will then be delivered to our server and your email account. This may result in a delay longer than the planned hour of the maintenance though.

Please monitor this status page to be notified of the start and end of the maintenance. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact NinerNet support.

Thank-you for your patience as we continue to work to improve our services to you.
