Server NC018 under attack again

24 August 2013 07:08:51 +0000

As the title says, it appears that server NC018 is again the target of an attack. We are working to address the issue as quickly as possible.

Server NC018 denial of service attack

23 August 2013 20:55:10 +0000

Server NC018 suffered a denial of service attack beginning at approximately 07:40 on 23 August, UTC. This continued until the server succumbed under the load at about 12:40. This affected all functions of the server: websites, sending and receiving emails, databases, etc.

Unfortunately we did not respond to this situation in a timely manner. This was partially because automated monitoring of server functions had been turned off due to an increasing number of false alarms from the system.

Once the server was rebooted at 13:47 and the attack mitigated, the server then still had a backlog of several thousand emails to process. This took several hours, with the queue being cleared by about 18:35. While emails were “missing” for several hours, no emails should have been lost; they were just delivered several hours late.

We sincerely apologise for the disruption caused by this event. We will reinstate monitoring and the associated actions that are taken when monitoring alarms go off.

We will shortly be responding to all emails and phone messages regarding this incident. If you have any further questions about this event, please contact us.

Server NC018 issues

23 August 2013 15:54:34 +0000

Server NC018 appears to be suffering the effects of a denial of service attack. We are working to address the issue.

Server NC018 back to normal

22 January 2013 22:02:06 +0000

The entire email backlog was processed by about 17:00 UTC, and the server is back to normal.

Again, we apologise for the inconvenience. Please contact support if you have any questions or concerns about this incident. Thank-you again for your patience.

Server NC018 update

22 January 2013 13:46:15 +0000

The primary mail server is working its way through the mail queue, and the queue is being reduced at this time. This is an improvement over what was happening earlier.

We will keep posting updates until this situation is resolved. Thank-you for your patience, and we apologise for the inconvenience.

Server NC018 update

22 January 2013 12:28:14 +0000

We are working with the data centre to block a distributed denial of service attack (DDoS) and clear the mail queue.

Server NC020 rebooted

17 May 2011 14:24:16 +0000

We have rebooted server NC020 and everything is fine now. We suspect one of the websites hosted on this server received a lot of traffic within the last hour or so — more than the server could handle. We’re still looking at all of the logs and will determine whether or not that was the case and post more here when we have all of the information.

Server NC020 overloaded

17 May 2011 14:01:19 +0000

Server NC020 is overloaded and responding very slowly. We have our suspicions as to why, and are looking into the issue. We will post updates here.

Server NC018 maintenance complete

4 September 2010 19:24:29 +0000

The hardware upgrade on server NC018 was started at precisely 19:00 UTC and was successfully concluded six minutes later at 19:06. The server is now back up again.

Thanks for your patience.

Hardware upgrade on server NC018

3 September 2010 21:36:09 +0000

To improve the performance of server NC018 and to address recent issues with this server, we will be adding more RAM to the server during our weekly maintenance window this weekend.

Server NC018 will be taken offline at approximately 19:00 UTC on Saturday, 4 September during this process, and will be offline for 30-45 minutes.

During this time, any inbound email destined for your account will be held on the sending mail servers until server NC018 is online again, at which time it will be delivered. No email will be lost.

If you have any questions or concerns about this maintenance, please contact NinerNet support. Thanks for your patience.
